The Toyota Tsusho CFAO African Art Award recognises outstanding contemporary artists across Africa and aims to support the next generation of artistic talent on the continent. Selected from a group of nearly 100 nominated artists by an international panel of curators and critics, Tizta is among five award recipients this year. Works by the winners will be presented in a series of exhibitions beginning in Togo in June 2026, followed by presentations in Japan and France.

Cellular Memory is Merikokeb Berhanu’s first solo presentation in Asia, and her second with Esther Schipper. On view are seven new paintings which explore the tension between the natural and the technological through the artist’s semi-abstracted figurative language.
