Selome Muleta

b. 1992, Ziway, Ethiopia. Lives and works in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Represented by Addis Fine Art; also represented by Jan Kaps, Cologne.

Selome Muleta makes paintings of charged interiors: rooms that tilt, walls that dissolve, and figures folded into themselves in states of introspection. Working in acrylic and oil pastel, she builds layered surfaces of translucent washes and dense opacity, creating environments that feel as psychologically alive as they do physically immediate. Her recent practice has shifted further toward the body as a site of perception, with elongated limbs and heightened gestures registering sensation through posture and proximity.

Selome’s work has been presented in solo and dual exhibitions by Addis Fine Art, including Tsédal (Addis Ababa, 2020), Collapsing Space (London, 2022), and Surface Tension (London, 2024), as well as a solo booth at Liste Art Fair Basel. In 2025, Jan Kaps presented her solo exhibition Motion in Cologne, with the gallery also presenting her work at Art Basel editions in Paris, Hong Kong, and Basel. Her most recent solo exhibition was presented by 47 Canal in collaboration with ROH Projects, Jakarta. Her paintings are held in public collections including Denver Art Museum and Nasjonalmuseet (Oslo).
